Senior Lawyer (21.5 hours per week) Glasgow

Equality and Human Rights Commission

The Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) is an independent statutory body, set up by Parliament. Its aims are to eliminate unlawful discrimination, advance equality of opportunity and promote and protect human rights for everyone. The Commission is one of the two UN national human rights institutions for Scotland.

The Commission now wishes to appoint a Senior Lawyer in our Glasgow office to provide specialist technical expertise and advice on equality and human rights law. The post holder will conduct cutting-edge litigation and interventions in high-risk legal proceedings; exercise the Commission’s statutory regulatory powers; and, when required, lead a team and oversee use of resources in order to ensure successful delivery of a range of programmes, project and activities.

We are seeking a qualified solicitor, entitled to practise in Scotland, with substantial knowledge of equality and human rights law and practice. The successful candidate will offer considerable experience of at least one of the following practice areas along with the skills and ability to work across the other two: litigation, regulatory enforcement work or legal policy work.

We actively encourage applications from groups in society that are currently under represented.
