Services

The following services are available in the Library, should you require any further information please contact the Library staff.

Enquiries

Library staff are ready to take enquiries from Members by phone, fax, e-mail or in person and will assist with enquiries in any way they can.

Research

More in-depth legal research can be carried out by Library staff for Members (see the Research page). Where this is completed in under 15 minutes there is no charge; after 15 minutes charges apply.

Document Delivery

The Library can supply copies of a wide variety of legal materials (see the Document Delivery page). All material supplied by the Library is subject to the provisions of copyright legislation - please read the Copyright page, and if necessary download a Copyright Declaration Form or request a CLA sticker.

Borrowing

All material in the Library is either reference (for use only in the Library) or borrowable for 7 days. All resources borrowed from the Library are therefore due back the following week. Should you need to hold onto an item for longer please contact the Library staff. The item can then be renewed for a further 7 days up to a maximum of 5 times (so long as it has not been requested by another Member). Members are encouraged to renew their books every week in order to avoid Library charges.

Computers and Internet

There are 3 computers freely available to Members for use in the Library. All the computers have Broadband Internet access and have a wide range of CD-ROMs pre-loaded onto them as well as access to several internet subscription services (see list of electronic resources). There is also Wi-Fi Internet access for Members to use on their own laptops within the Library.

Photocopiers

The Library has a photocopier for use by Members. Members can buy photocopy cards of values £2, £5, £10, £15 and £20 the charge remains 10p per A4 sheet. If necessary a photocopy card can be kept behind the issue desk and can be made available to all members of that firm.

Fax

A fax machine for both sending and receiving faxes, while working in the Library, is available to Members.

Quiet Study

The Main Library and the Study Area in the basement are available for Members to carry out research and study in a conducive atmosphere.

Sheriff Court Information Suite

The Royal Faculty operates a small branch library in the Sheriff Court as an extension of the main library for use by court practitioners (see the Sheriff Court Library page).

Discounted Legal Textbooks

Members have the opportunity to order legal textbooks through the Library at a 5% discount on publishers' prices. To take advantage of this offer please contact the Librarian for details.

Comments and Suggestions

To ensure that the Library is as responsive to the needs of Royal Faculty Members as possible comments and / or suggestions regarding any aspect of the library service are most welcome.

Library Rules

The Library Rules were approved by the Council of the Royal Faculty on 26 January 2010.
