Seminar Details This Half-day Conference will examine various aspects of professional practice – the talks will cover the following topics –

• The Data Protection Compliant Solicitor (Valerie Surgenor)
Processing of personal data is fundamental to any solicitor and key to compliance is the adoption of good practice; knowing what data you collect and knowing what you do with those data and the impact of the eight data protection principles. The session with look more specifically at the sharing of personal data; how long firms should retain personal data and the measures firms utilise to keep personal data secure.

• Complaints and How to Avoid Them (Prof. Alan Paterson)

• Frauds and Scams (including Data Security) (Russell Lang)

• Risk Management Aspects of Complaint Handling (David Buchanan-Cook)
This talk will highlight what the Scottish Legal Complaints Commission considers to be best practice in both complaint prevention and first tier complaint handling. It will also examine the new arrangements which come into play from the beginning of July under the EU Directive in Alternative Dispute Resolution.
