Seminar Details The Royal Faculty is to hold its 4th annual Personal Injury Conference at which a panel of speakers will address issues of importance to every personal injury practitioner. The overall theme of the Conference is “one step ahead” and it will focus on potential developments within the field of personal injury law.
The cost of the conference has been reduced to £50 for members and £75 for non-members.

The Scottish landscape – where are we and what might the future look like?
Ian Johnston will examine the Scottish PI landscape. Topics to include:
• A brief history of the VPAP, its shortcomings and how do we improve?
• Is litigation a sign of failure?
• English & Welsh landscape has changed rapidly of late are we being left behind?
• Judicial interest

Developments in asbestos litigation and the impact of Court Reform on disease cases
Laura Blane will provide a review of significant developments in asbestos cases over the last couple of years together with a look forward at what impact the proposed changes to the civil court system may have on the litigation of disease cases.

Developments in Fatal 'Loss of Society' Awards
Sandy Forsyth’s talk will cover the major uplifts in the levels of awards in fatal cases for 'distress, grief and loss of society' under section 4(3)(b) of the Damages (Scotland) Act 2011 in a series of judgments over the past year, and the reasoning behind those awards.

Scotland Today
Gordon Keyden will look at the latest things that are happening with Personal Injury reforms, what the Civil Justice Council PI Committee are up to, and what’s coming down the track.
